TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
http://trainers.salto-youth.net/AlexandroJanLai/
I am a Non Formal Education trainer with 25+ years of experience in the field. A master in international development and one in e-learning (Learning design) have oriented me toward international youth mobility, digital literacy and critical thinking as key factors in youth participation.
I am an active member of local, national and international NGOs.
I represent the International Youth Work Trainers Guild in the European Academy on Youth Work Advisory Group.
Alexandro Jan Lai has 6 references for past work as a trainer and added 1 tools to the SALTO Toolbox.
Trainer, facilitator and expert in international youth mobility, non-formal education, youth work, international vlunteering, digital literacy and online learning
Through the years I’ve played different roles connected with education. My most relevant tasks have been tightly linked to EVS (and now ESC) having written and managed over 18 hosting projects, trained over 1000 volunteers, NGO EVS staff and mentors (with 35+ training courses delivered including pre departure, on arrival, mid term evaluation, post project final evaluation, mentoring, EVS management, Contact Making Seminars) for the Italian National Agency for Erasmus+, for SALTO centres and other NA’s since 2003. Since 2020 I have been a member of the European Academy on Youth Work Advisory Group representing the IYWT Guild.
During the COVID-19 crisis, I have been called by the Italian NA to design, together with 4 more colleagues, the format of the first online training cycle for the ESC volunteers and tested the first (and 4 more after that) TEC course delivered digitally in April 2020. In the specific field of EU financed volunteering programs I have also been involved as an NGO accreditor in MEDA countries. More generally in the field of youth work, mobility and NFE I often deliver training courses aimed at NGO staff, youth workers and other trainers on topics ranging from e-learning courses management to youth leadership development, from digital citizenship and participation to photographic communication. Over the years, I have specialized in developing projects, courses, and tools to facilitate the use of digital tools in the learning process and from the point of view of digital literacy. Since the mid 90’s I have also designed and managed complex web sites for NGOs and specific projects and events in the NFE field.
From 2010 to 2023 I’ve been in charge for the web pages of the International Tool Fair and since 2017 to 2023 for its overall communication strategy and social media channels. I also have a long experience in the vocational education field writing, assessing, and managing training courses.
I’ve been since it’s kick off (July 2021) a member of the facilitators team for the on-going “Mental Health in Youth Work” long term National Agencies partnership project lead by the Finnish E+ National Agency.
I have facilitated large events up to 500+ participants.
It is hard to list the non formal education courses, experiences and projects I have learned from and that helped me in consolidating my competences. In more than 25 years there have been loads, and it becomes hard to tell which single experience was more relevant as they all merge in a wider learning path. But besides the NFE opportunities, 3 steps in my learning career have made me who I am:
2007 - Master in "E-learning: learning design and learning objects";
1997 - Master in International Development;
1995 - Degree in Political Science;
And still, probably the most relevant experience in my life, that has guided me through my life and professional choices, has been the defining year spent abroad as an exchange student in 1986-1987:
1987 - Penn High School, Indiana, USA
