TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
http://trainers.salto-youth.net/MayssaRekhis/
Humans are stories, dreams, vulnerability, love, strength, passion, guilt, fear, hope and many other things..
Training is about bringing Humans together, and building the proper environment where we feel safe and challenged to be what we are. And then we can work together, on human rights, on democracy, on participation and social change... Being who we are, we will be able to change things. This is one of the trainers' challenges. The other one is inspiring!
Mayssa Rekhis has 4 references for past work as a trainer.
Freelance trainer & consultant / PhD fellow
I am a youth trainer with more than 7 years of experience in non formal education and training, mainly in the fields of human rights, democracy, youth participation, inclusion, gender equality, public health and health and human rights. I have been giving training courses and sessions with national and international NGOs and institutions in Tunisia, the MENA region, and Europe.
I have also carried a number of consultancies: designing strategies for youth programs (e.g.: UNFPA Tunisia youth program consultant, 2015), documenting and evaluating youth programs/projects (The "youth democratic participation" program realized by the CoE in the frame of the South Program in 2012-2014).
*Non-formal education:
- Training of trainers in Campaigning for social change - Action Aid - Jordan: June 21st - July 20th 2012. This one month intensive training course was an opportunity for me to acquire competencies in the field of campaigning and campaigning strategies as it combined theory and practice (during the training course we developed and run a campaign in Jordan related to violence in universities).
- Training of trainers in Human Rights Education - Long term training course organized by the Council of Europe Youth department composed of e-learning and a residential seminar: 2011-2012. This was really a very high quality one year training during which I got to learn a lot about human rights, and human rights education. It also was the beginning of a long journey in this field that I am happy to still carry!
- Advanced training of trainers in theater based techniques for peer education- Y-PEER (the Youth peer education network)- Beirut September 2011.
This training was a very creative and artistic one, and I learnt how to use theater techniques in training: and this is awesome as I got one of the most powerful tools in my box since then and I enjoy using it!
- Training of trainers in health and Human Rights - Organized by IFHHRO (the International Federation of Health and Human Rights Organizations): Copenhagen August 2011. This was the revelation in my career path: as a medical student, interested and active in the field of human rights, I had the feeling of being lost, until I had this training combining health to human rights! And this is now one my main areas of interest and expertise: training health professionals in human rights, working in the relationship between health and human rights, with sexual and reproductive health and rights, and mental health.
- Training of new trainers in peer education - Y-PEER - Tunisia: Sept 2010. This is how the story with training begun: I had my first training of trainers and I felt immediately that this is what I want to do!
* Formal education:
- PhD fellow (Ongoing): Erasmus Mundus Phoenix Joint Doctorate in Dynamics of Health and Welfare (EHESS Paris, Linköping University, Evora University, National School of Public Health Lisbon).
Research project: Populations mobility; an opportunity for health equity.
- Medical Doctorate (M.D) - Faculty of Medicine of Tunis - May 2015 -
Thesis "Rights of people with mental disorders: realities and perceptions".
