TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
http://trainers.salto-youth.net/ElenaDiezVillagrasa/
Working in education and training since 2007, but volunteering in youth work since I was 18.
At the moment I am developing my passion for training while freelancing, together with my passion for arts as a puppetier.
I am part of the board of AHEAD - Association of Human Rights Educators (www.AHEADedu.org).
Elena Díez-Villagrasa has 4 references for past work as a trainer.
Freelance trainer, educational adviser and puppetier
I currently divide my time between performing arts (especially shadow puppets) and HRE. My present "obsession" is to create as many links as possible between both of them.
I have been working as educational adviser and trainer both at local and international level for the last decade, although my connection with non-formal education already started when I was 17 years old, working and volunteering as youth leader; not long after, also grew my interest for international activities and intercultural learning. Since then I have never given up education or international work.
In 2007 I got to know Human Rights Education, the rights of the child and Compasito in a Council of Europe's Training course. Since then, both became central in my educational practices. So, I was one of the founders of the Association of Human Rights Educators - AHEAD, having in mind making Compasito available to Catalan-speaker educators. I am really stubborn and determined, so after many efforts and time, that became a reality. I was also editor of the materials for children and educators on the Charter of the Council of Europe that gives full support and recognition to Human Rights Education.
At present I freelance and collaborate in associations such as IRENIA - Jocs de Pau and CREART NGO.
My bachelor in English together with postgraduate studies in “International and Intercultural Relationships focused in Latin America” proved a strong basis where to build up my profile as a trainer. However, several working experiences both as trainer (around Europe) and as development project coordinator (in the Arab world) completed my learning through practice.
Moreover, I started very young as a volunteer youth worker; even if I attended the official trainings to become both a youth leader and a youth activities coordinator at regional level, the direct experience with children was the most valuable. Those experiences and courses meant the basis for my experience in youth work, which are essential as a trainer in this field
I also took part in international exchanges at European level from very young, which later on lead me to organise them myself. Further experience coordinating multilateral Euro-Mediterranean youth exchanges, and more recently European and Euro-Mediterranean training courses, have also proved a great source for my learning.
Before becoming a trainer I was an English teacher – and took all relevant courses to become one -. This experience also proved very relevant in my training experiences, even if I also took a training for trainers course at regional level. However, attending “Human Rights Education with Children” organised by the Council of Europe was a turning point in my career as trainer, especially as far as the strong topics of my concern.
