Jonathan Robertson

About:

As a young person, I participated in volunteer projects, youth exchanges and initiatives. I co-founded Xchange Scotland in 2007 to champion international youth work. Since then, I have been developing and delivering projects and training courses on topics including global education, leadership, sports and intercultural dialogue. I've seen how making learning dynamic, fun and international can change people and create lasting impact... and I want to bring that to every project I'm involved in.

Jonathan Robertson has 6 references for past work as a trainer.

Educational pathway

I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA in English Literature. But, a much deeper learning began when I came across the world of international volunteering and non-formal education projects.

I was trained and led international volunteer projects in Wales, which opened my eyes to the opportunities that were out there and working with a wide range of people. It was there I was introduced to how making learning dynamic, fun and international could change people and situations.

Trying to bring this inspiration to Glasgow and Scotland through being one of the founders and leaders of Xchange Scotland has been my biggest source of learning. From building a team and planning projects, right through to evaluation and reflection, I have had a huge range of learning experiences. I participated in Training Courses on running Youth Exchanges and developing Global Education work and, crucially, developed myself as a self-directed learner.

Training is my big passion and I was lucky enough to be a participant on the year-long Youth in Action Training of Trainers (ToT) course. Along with the work and learning I was doing in Glasgow, the ToT course gave me the space to develop myself further with the help and inspiration of the others on the course. I developed techniques to share my learning, build my understanding of how learning happens and gained methods in how to support and facilitate learning in others. This is work and learning that continues for me every day.

I completed a Masters course at the University of Glasgow in Community Learning and Development in 2016 and am now a Dissertation Supervisor there too.
