A practical toolkit created by young people for young people to recognise discrimination, respond to it, and build more inclusive communities.

Aims of the tool

To help young people recognise discrimination when they see it
To provide practical tools to respond to discrimination as active upstanders, not passive bystanders
To promote inclusion, human rights and intercultural dialogue
To support youth workers and educators in their work on anti-discrimination
To empower young people to build communities where everyone feels they belong

Description of the tool

This toolkit was created by participants of the Erasmus+ youth exchange "From Bias to Belonging", which took place in Larnaca, Cyprus, in April 2026. The project brought together 28 young people from Cyprus, Italy, Romania and Lithuania.
The toolkit is a practical guide based on real experiences, real conversations and real learning. It is not an academic paper. It is designed to be used in youth centres, schools, community groups and workshops.

The toolkit includes:
Core values for an inclusive society (Respect, Empathy, Equity, Solidarity)
Common types of discrimination explained in simple language
Barriers to inclusion
The 5Ds of bystander intervention (Direct, Distract, Delegate, Delay, Document)
Practical strategies for inclusion in schools, public spaces, online and within communities
The Peacemaker Protocol for conflict resolution (7 steps)
A commitment statement and a letter to the reader
The toolkit also includes links to a Curated Source Pack with videos, articles and legal documents on human rights, hate speech, privilege and systemic racism.
