to stimulate discussion whereby quieter participants also get to speak

Description of the tool

Preparation: 3 sheets of packing paper are spread on the floor and marker pens for all the participants.
Procedure: 1. a question is written on each piece of paper, e.g.. "The EU- a community for Christians?", "Turkey – my wish for a new member in the EU?", "Which are my 3 most important European values?", "Where are the borders of Europe?"
2. The participants can now write their opinions/statements on the paper for all to see. A ‘written conversation’ should take place and statements be related to one another. No one should speak during the activity.
Evaluation: Comprehension questions should be cleared up first and then it’s possible to go into the content in more depth. Which were the most controversial points?

Comments

  • I am not sure if this is a good idea. This goes specially to mixed groups, where written (and spoken) language in not mother tongue for large majority of people. They may be reluctant to express themselves. Speaking may be better option
