The UMJ Toolkit aims to allow young people to develop “soft skills” – the transferable skills that complement technical and academic skills. By trying out techniques, young people can increase their level of the skills and gain in self-confidence.
The purpose of the Toolkit is to help young people identify, map, and develop 8 different soft skills.
The UMJ Toolkit aims to allow young people to develop “soft skills” – the transferable skills that complement technical and academic skills. The Toolkit is mainly intended for young people who are already involved in some kind of activity or project, such as study, youth volunteering projects, work experience or employability training. By trying out techniques, young people can increase their level of the skills and gain in self-confidence.
The Toolkit includes practical guidance for developing 8 different soft skills together with overall advice on how to use each soft skill section. The 8 soft skills are as follows:
Positive Attitude
Communication
Adaptability
Time & Energy Management
Work Ethic
Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking
Teamwork
Leadership
Each Toolkit section has been piloted by young people and practitioners to determine its effectiveness and usefulness. The Toolkit is available to download in English, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Polish, and Portuguese on the UMJ website at www.understandingmyjourney.eu.
The UMJ partnership also created a web-based application that complements the Toolkit and provides an interactive platform for young people to capture their soft skills development journey. The UMJ App integrates graphics and other media files and uses a format that is both engaging and innovative in a medium familiar to young people.
The App was developed in each of the 6 partner languages and is accessible at www.umj-app.eu. Register now to create your own account and start mapping your own soft skills journey.
In addition, the UMJ partnership developed a Practitioner Guide which will support those working with young people to introduce the UMJ Toolkit and App , ensure it is used effectively and is integrated into the youth activities that the young people will be involved in. The Guide is available to download in each of the 6 partner languages at the UMJ website: www.understandingmyjourney.eu.
