Energiser, Ice-breaker
Warm-up and topical introduction. A fast and relaxed game at the beginning of a topic unit with which a European topic can already be introduced
Preparation: Form small groups of 4 - 6 participants. The team leader prepares a large piece of paper for each group. Write a long word or sentence vertically on the piece of paper, so that a letter is in each line. A word with the corresponding first letter should connect to it
Procedure: The group members stand in a queue. The paper is placed at the other end of the room. After a start signal the first person from each group runs with a pen in their hand – as in a relay race over tables and chairs – to the poster and writes a word - associated to the topic of Europe - in the line with the appropriate first letter. Having returned to their group they pass the pen to the next team member who runs and writes up another word etc. The first group to write words for all the letters wins
Evaluation: Look at the posters and compare and discuss the associations
Variations: Other topics can be given for the associations. Or the task can be: write ‘Thank you’ in 8 different European languages, name 10 European capitals, etc.
The course can be built up with very different obstacles
