Divide people into subgroups according to an unusual criteria

Description of the tool

Ask people to rank themselves according to shoe size (you can ask them to do this without speaking if you want to make it more difficult).
You can then make subgroups with the smallest sizes, the biggest sizes and the intermediate sizes, depending on the number of people you want to have in the subgroups. Mostly this group division method gives you a women only group (smaller feet) and a men only group (the biggest shoes) which could be an interesting element in the group work.
NOTE: in some countries shoe sizes are different which could lead to some interesting intercultural confusion

Comments

  • Alternatively you could rank people on some other criteria like birthday, how many pairs of shoes they own, the number of training courses they have done before etc... This allows participants at the same time to find out some similarities and differences between each other.
However, it is probably important to avoid potential sensitive issues such as age, weight, etc unless they will be build in in the training course...
