Comparative analysis of GBV affecting young women in Sweden, Romania and Turkey, covering public, semi-public and digital risk settings, legal/reporting pathways, support services, access barriers, and implications for SAFE-STEPS learning modules.

Aims of the tool

The tool aims to strengthen understanding of GBV in public and semi-public spaces across Sweden, Romania and Turkey, identify risks, barriers and support pathways, and provide an evidence base for practical SAFE-STEPS learning modules for young women and youth workers.

Description of the tool

The Comprehensive Analysis of GBV in Public Spaces provides a comparative overview of how gender-based violence affects young women in Sweden, Romania and Turkey. It examines public, semi-public and digitally connected spaces, including streets, public transport, nightlife venues, campuses, youth settings and online environments. The report explores common risk patterns, legal and reporting pathways, available support services, barriers to accessing help and factors that can increase vulnerability. It also highlights the emotional and social consequences of GBV, including fear, hypervigilance, avoidance and reduced participation in public life. The analysis serves as an evidence base for the SAFE-STEPS learning modules and Digital Resource Portal, helping young women and youth workers build practical skills in recognition, emotional regulation, safer decision-making, support navigation and recovery.
