Exercise, Manual
A practical non-formal learning tool helping young migrants use photography, short videos and storytelling to express identity, share experiences, build digital skills and promote inclusion.
The tool aims to support young migrants to understand and apply PhotoVoice and digital storytelling as methods for self-expression, participation and social inclusion. It helps participants develop basic visual media skills, reflect on identity and community, and learn how to share stories ethically and safely.
This learning tool introduces young migrants to PhotoVoice, digital storytelling and visual media through practical, participatory activities. Participants explore how photographs, short videos, captions and personal reflections can communicate stories, emotions and social messages.
The tool includes non-formal activities such as image-based icebreakers, group reflection, photography exercises, story planning, and ethical storytelling discussions. It places strong emphasis on consent, privacy, avoiding stereotypes, and protecting participants when sharing visual content.
Learning outcomes include:
understanding the basic principles of PhotoVoice and digital storytelling;
identifying key elements of visual storytelling;
using photography and short video to express ideas and experiences;
developing confidence in creative self-expression;
recognising ethical issues linked to consent, privacy and representation;
reflecting on identity, belonging, community and inclusion.
The manual is designed for young migrants aged 18–30 and uses a safe, accessible and youth-centred approach.
