Manual
Outcome of the Erasmus+ Seminar “Non-Formal Education: An Effective Tool for the Personal Development of Young People”, held in November 2025 in Chieti (Abruzzo, Italy), collecting methodologies, good practices and reflections on non-formal education.
The aim of this publication is to provide youth workers, educators, teachers, volunteers and professionals working with young people with practical approaches, methods and tools related to Non-Formal Education (NFE), in order to support the personal development, active participation and social inclusion of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities.
Non-Formal Education (NFE) represents a powerful approach to support the personal development, active participation and social inclusion of young people. This publication is the result of an Erasmus+ Seminar that brought together youth workers, educators, teachers and volunteers from different European countries to explore, exchange and deepen their knowledge on NFE methodologies and practices.
The handbook collects a wide range of good practices, case studies and methodological reflections developed and shared during the seminar, covering key thematic areas such as active citizenship, environmental education, outdoor education, intercultural education and food education. Through participatory and experiential approaches, it highlights how NFE can be applied in different contexts to address the needs of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities.
The learning outcomes of this publication include the development of practical competences in designing and implementing non-formal educational activities, increased awareness of inclusive and participatory learning approaches, and the ability to adapt methods to different local contexts. It also aims to strengthen critical thinking, creativity, cooperation and community engagement among practitioners.
By providing concrete tools, inspiration and adaptable methodologies, this handbook supports professionals in enhancing the quality and impact of their educational work with young people.
