A Guide on explaining practical steps to organizing the experiential education programs in the rural area.
Experiential education is a close methodology to non-formal though differs in the sense there should be always a practical process and outcome.

Aims of the tool

To promote the methodology of experiential education among people engaged in youth work in rural area, rural activists and civil society.

To inspire community leaders to exploit the potential of own communities by utilizing the experiential education for the economic growth and social effects.

To stimulate the development of entrepreneurship spirit among people in the rural area who could be implementing this tool in own limited conditions.

To tell the story of our Terra Incognita project and showcase our examples.

Description of the tool

This tool explains how the activists, educators and community leaders can organize the process of training, information campaign or organize leisure activities for tourists in rural area utilizing the actual resources in the community - it's social, historic and cultural background. The local cultural heritage is a great source for practical and other knowledge. By uncovering the heritage and presenting it we not only educate the recipients of the experiential education programs but as well we help preserve the heritage and give respect to it.

There are pre-conditions that should be available in the rural community to be able to host and develop the experiential education. They are described in the Guide. This is derived from the actual and real experience of the partners who organized the Terra Incognita project in frames of the Erasmus Plus Capacity Building K2 project in Ukraina, Lithuania, Croatia and Bulgaria. Real advice and live examples are in the Guide.

As well we understand that experiential education is not only an aim but a collateral tool of community development when we grow local leaders. Therefore it can be used in leadership acquisition programs by youth and etc.

Materials needed:

When implementing experiential education in the rural area you need to have access to a target village/small community. There you should be better possessing contacts with the local leaders who are moved with the feelings of patriotism for the own community and entrepreneurial spirit.

Within the project: "Terra incognita: experiential education and creative tourism to raise economic prospect of youth in rural area" under the Key Action 2 Capacity Building for Youth of the ERASMUS PLUS Programme, co-funded by the European Union.

The tool has been experimented in

Youth Exchange, Study Visits, Large-scale Event - Festival of experiential education and traditional culture in Stina, Ukraine.
