- support the safe and inclusive use of short mindfulness activities in everyday kindergarten routines;
- help educators foster children’s attention, emotional awareness, self-regulation and wellbeing;
- provide practical strategies for adapting activities to different ages, needs and group dynamics;
- encourage observation, professional reflection, peer learning and the sustainable use of mindfulness in preschool settings.

Description of the tool

Little Minds, Big Focus: A Practical Mindfulness Guide for Preschool Educators is a ready-to-use resource designed to help educators integrate brief and developmentally appropriate mindfulness practices into everyday preschool education.

The guide follows a practical pathway: Understand, Prepare, Choose, Deliver, Observe, Adapt and Share.

It combines an accessible introduction to mindfulness in early childhood with practical guidance on creating a safe and supportive environment, choosing the right moment, managing group participation and adapting activities to different children and contexts.

The guide includes 18 structured activity scenarios based on breathing, mindful movement, sensory awareness, emotional expression, listening, relaxation and focused attention. Each activity provides clear implementation steps, suggested language for the educator, age adaptations, inclusive participation options, group-management advice, observation prompts and safety considerations.

It also contains planning, observation and reflection tools, printable activity cards, implementation checklists and guidance for peer learning through the Mindfulness Ambassador Model.

After using the guide, educators will be better able to explain mindfulness in an early-childhood context, select and facilitate suitable activities, adapt them to different abilities and needs, recognise signs of engagement, reflect on their practice, share effective approaches with colleagues and integrate mindfulness sustainably into preschool routines.

The guide was developed within the Erasmus+ project LITTLE MINDS, BIG FOCUS and can be used independently or alongside the project’s training curriculum, activity collection, train-the-trainer guide and online activity library.
