Inclusion in Action: Gen(der)ation Equality Pocket Guide

Aims of the tool

The aim of this pocket guide is to equip youth workers, educators, facilitators and other non-formal education practitioners with practical tools and methods for promoting gender equality, inclusion and intersectional approaches in youth work. The guide supports the development of competences related to understanding privilege, discrimination, gender theory, inclusion of disadvantaged groups, intersectional needs assessment, policy analysis and policy advocacy. It also aims to encourage the active participation of young people in decision-making processes and to strengthen the capacity of youth organisations to create more inclusive, accessible and gender-sensitive learning environments. The resource contributes to fostering human rights, social inclusion and equality at local, national and European levels.

Description of the tool

This Pocket Guide is a practical educational resource developed within the Erasmus+ youth worker mobility project “Inclusion in Action: Gen(der)ation Equality”. It provides youth workers, trainers, educators and civil society organisations with ready-to-use non-formal education methods focused on gender equality, inclusion, intersectionality and youth participation in policy-making.

The guide contains six structured workshops that can be implemented as standalone activities or as part of a longer training programme. The methods combine experiential learning, reflection, group work, discussion, needs assessment, stakeholder mapping and policy development exercises. Particular attention is given to the experiences of young women with disabilities and other young people facing multiple forms of discrimination.

The resource supports participants in understanding how different aspects of identity (gender, disability, socio-economic background, ethnicity, geographical location, age, etc.) interact and influence opportunities, access and participation. Through practical exercises, participants explore privilege and discrimination, analyse barriers to inclusion, learn how public policies affect everyday life, and develop skills for drafting policy recommendations and advocating for change.

The Pocket Guide is designed for youth workers, trainers, teachers, youth leaders, volunteers and organisations working with disadvantaged young people. The methods can be adapted to different local contexts and participant profiles.
