Simulation Exercise
A workshop on communication in between different generations
to develop self-reflection and to smooth the communication (avoinding the misunderstandings) between different generations
Flow:
• Ask relatively elder people from the group to write a letter to themselves, imagining they could send it themselves when they were much younger (e.g. if one is 30 y.o, let the person write the letter to him/herself 18 y.o).
• At the same time, ask the younger ones write a letter to themselves in older age.
• Exchange the letters randomly, so that elder ones get the letters from younger ones and the opposite. Let the participants read the letters.
Ask for a reflection.
• Did the message speak up to them?
• Do people find themselves similar or different even in the random selection (how common are the ideas, the problems)?
• What are the thoughts about the relationship and the communication between the generations? What is working well, what could be improved and how?
• Where do people see the communication problems in between generations (e.g. youth workers – young people; parents-children etc.)?
