Presentation
It’s a presentation about fact and information checking accompanied with practical tasks
Check the source aims to increase media literacy and critical thinking of participants by teaching them to evaluate received information and using source and fact checking tools in theorical and practical way.
Check the source – “Real or fake?” is tool, consisting of theorical and practical parts aiming to increase media literacy and critical thinking of participants, by helping them to learn tools and techniques how to check the sources and evaluate received information and immediately after theorical input apply learnt information in practice.
Firstly participants are provided with theorical input “How to identify reliable information”, what makes the sources reliable and how should we question the information which we receive. Further participants get introduced to 9 tools to check the reliability of information.
After theorical input follow 10 “Real or fake?” tasks/statements and participants have to decide (to guess either to check with one of the tools previously learnt) whether the information provided was real or fake.
The activity is finalized with debriefing and participants summarize which statements were well-known and easy to guess and which ones needed to be check by fact checker. Participants identify their favorite fact-checking tools and which of them they intend to use in the future.
