AI Tools Booklet for Youth Work
A practitioner's guide to using AI responsibly, inclusively and effectively in youth work: six principles, an AI-by-task toolkit, the CRAFT prompting framework, project-cycle guidance, clear red lines and a starter plan for organisations.
Aims of the tool
- Help youth workers, trainers and youth organisations use AI tools responsibly, ethically and in line with data-protection (GDPR) rules.
- Improve the quality and inclusiveness of youth work by using AI to save time on content, design, translation, accessibility and reporting, without replacing the human relationship.
- Provide a practical prompting method (CRAFT) and task-by-task guidance that a non-technical youth worker can apply immediately.
- Support organisations to build a responsible AI practice, with agreed principles and firm limits.
Description of the tool
This 7-page booklet is a hands-on, tool-agnostic reference for the people who run youth work. It opens with six principles for responsible AI (human-in-charge; data protection first; transparency; inclusion and accessibility; quality and truth; sustainability and proportionality). It then gives an "AI-by-task" toolkit covering content and material creation, project design and management, communication and dissemination, facilitation and learning, translation and accessibility, and evaluation and reporting, with a responsible-use note for each. It introduces the CRAFT prompting framework (Context, Role, Action, Format, Tune) with worked examples, shows how to use AI across the whole project cycle from idea to reporting, sets out clear red lines (what AI must never do in youth work), and closes with a step-by-step starter plan for an organisation. It pairs with the youth-facing "Youth Guide to Responsible AI". Materials needed:
An internet-connected device and access to common AI tools are helpful for trying the examples, but the booklet can be read and used as a reference without them.
Duration:
About 45–60 minutes to read; designed as an ongoing reference. It includes a starter plan and a team-session outline, so it can also anchor a 60–90 minute staff training on responsible AI use.
