How to talk about war



“How to talk about war” is about how to face
crisis situations and make it a topic in non-
formal education events, especially if you work
with interculturally mixed and transnational
groups. The publication was created by three
experienced European Solidarity Corps
trainers form PL NA.

Toolbox non-formal education and
learning tools in the field of community
work with and for young refugees

This toolbox consists of a series of samples of
non-formal learning activities, background
texts, references and direct web-based links to
useful sources of information, including a case
study on “unaccompanied refugee children”.
The toolbox was developed in the frame of the
project “BEING YOUR HOST - Better INclusion
of YOUng Refugees in Hosting SocieTies”.

A toolkit for youth workers working with
young migrants, refugees and asylum
seekers

This tool kit targets youth workers who have
little experience in working with newcomers.
It collects facts, tips and tricks to overcome
barriers for young refugees to get involved in
youth work.

 

Policy & Research

What about youth work with young refugees
in Europe

This article aims to give an overview of what
was happening at European level on youth work
with young refugees in 2018. It provides
information on policy, research and youth work
initiatives and present opportunities (capacity-
building, funding) for youth workers.

Social Inclusion Consortium

The Social Inclusion Consortium (2016-2019) was set up in response to the influx of reguees and asylum seekers in 2015 and 2016. In this consortium three different projects were established: Aware And Active, Becoming Part of Europe and Youth for Human Rights. At the basis of all these projects was the question how to make sure young refugees would be included in European societies.

Aware And Active

The target group of “Aware and Active” were young people between 16 and 30 years of age. In particular, young migrants, refugees and asylum seekers were to be involved in the project. The main objectives of the project were preventing violent radicalization and promoting democratic values, fundamental rights, intercultural understanding and active citizenship of young people; and enhance critical thinking and media literacy among young people.

Inclusion guidelines

 

This publication provides practical guidelines
for working with and including young
refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers.

Toolkit for Trainings and Idea Labs

 

This training tool kit aims to strengthen the
coherence and red thread for the “Aware and
Active” -Campaign(s), ensure that issues like
critical thinking or campaigning basics are
covered in all trainings within the project and
create also a supportive community among
involved trainers. The tool kit describes a
possible set up for the 2,5 days of activities
structured in 4 blocks and 12 sessions.

Final report Aware and Active Ideathon on
inclusion of young migrants, refugees and
asylum seekers in youth work

The final report of the “Aware and Active
Ideathon”, held in Vienna from 29th to 30th of
May. The project was implemented by the
National Agencies of Erasmus+: Youth in
Action programme from Austria, Estonia,
Finland, Italy, Macedonia and Slovenia, and
supported by Professional Open Youth Work
in Europe.

Becoming a Part of Europe

The "Becoming a part of Europe" project targeted youth workers. It intended to develop and share non-formal education methodologies and new inclusion practices through youth work, with a view to promoting the integration and social inclusion of young migrants, refugees and asylum seekers and to foster understanding, tolerance and respect among people.

Policy Recommendations

This publication was developed in the
Becoming Part of Europe-project that was
part of the Social Inclusion Consortium (2016-
2019). Within the project, based on the
expertise of participants and stakeholders
involved, a set of recommendations were
elaborated for improving policies related to
young migrants, refugees and asylum
seekers’ inclusion, as well as to
provide greater recognition of the role of informal
and non-formal learning in youth work.

Youth for Human Rights

The aim of the project “Youth for Human Rights” was to foster social inclusion through making use of the full potential of youth work and of human rights education (HRE) in the context of youth work and young people’s non-formal learning.

Transnational Human Rights Education
Mapping

Study

This transnational study aims to gather and
analyse data about HRE state of play, key
actors, concepts and resources in international
context. Its objectives are firstly
to identify the best practices of existing
training concepts of (1) training of trainers, and
(2) training of youth workers, as well as
(3) educational resources on HRE on
transnational level. Secondly it identifies the
further needs and what is missing (e.g.
resources or training needs of key actors)
from the ‘current menu’ of existing concepts,
approaches, actors, and educational
resources on HRE in the field of youth on
transnational level, through mapping
and focus groups of experts.

The Perspective of Participating Trainers and
Youth Workers
Final Survey Report

This summary report provides an overview of
key findings from the participant surveys
of the transnational and national trainings,
contains recommendations based on these
survey findings, and finally provides all
answers to the final surveys (post-activity) as
well as the surveys used.
