Aims & objectives

The training activity aimed to equip professionals in child and youth work with tools to increase political participation among young people and help them understand political processes. It addressed the need for youth to have their voices heard in the political arena. By focusing on political education, the training course was in harmony with the goals of the organizations to promote active engagement and empowerment of young individuals in society.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

In this Training course we had 20 participants from the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Greece. We had different genders were involved in this training activity.

Training methods used & main activities

In this training, I utilized many engaging methods to ensure active participation and learning. For team building, we started with a lively miming game, where participants communicated only through gestures. They had to explain words that I gave them by using body language. This not only strengthened their communication skills but also highlighted the diverse ways people express themselves across Europe.

To get into European Democracy, I used a captivating role-playing game named "Mine in Sleepyville." Divided into groups with conflicting values, participants collaborated to construct a city constitution, emphasizing the importance of tolerance and unity in a diverse society and it was a chance to understand the danger of extremist ideas, some ideologies and stereotypes.

Exploring the city of Magdeburg took an interactive turn with the use of the method of "Action Bound," an app that turned our exploration into an exciting scavenger hunt-style adventure, enhancing our understanding of the city's culture and history.

Discussion method was a place to provide a platform for deeper exploration of topics such as democracy and attitudes towards human rights, ethnic and sexual minorities, corruption, religion, and people with special needs. These discussions encouraged critical thinking and empathy among participants, enriching their understanding of the importance of our democracy now and for the future.

Outcomes of the activity

The training activity successfully addressed the rise of anti-democratic tendencies by discussing strategies with 20 professionals from Germany, Spain, Greece, and the Netherlands on how to work with young people. Its success was evident through a positive evaluation session where participants shared their learnings and provided feedback. Additionally, an online evaluation form received anonymous responses, further confirming the effectiveness of the training. The exchange of experiences and best practices will assist participants, especially in preparations for the #epelections 2024.
