The training aimed to encourage and empower young people to act on their role as active citizens of the European society by fostering social and cultural awareness and inclusion through the art of storytelling. More specifically the project goals were to provide a multicultural environment in which 20 youngsters from four different countries could learn about and use the art of storytelling in order to contribute to the regeneration of rural communities and values; to raise awareness concerning key issues of today’s society and to promote active citizenship and social inclusion.
The participants took part in the training were youth leaders, peer educators and active volunteers with past experiences in youth work and interested in developing new methods to facilitate social inclusion processes.
They came from Romania, Italy, Lithuania and Hungary.
The interactive methodologies proposed during the project come from the combination of non formal education and the story telling: they both foresee the active involvement of participants in each stage of the laboratories and the development of the different learning styles. Through the non formal education and the story telling it has been possible to get in touch with the Corbi local inhabitants and to implement a deep rooted work to recover the ancient stories, traditions and heritages.
During the project the exchange of technical knowledge and competences was constantly encouraged, the different learning approaches stimulated and evaluated through specific sessions on learning assessment.
These are the following outcomes achieved through the training:
1. setting of a detailed analysis of the different countries, specifically about intergenerational gap and rural-urban relation;
2. analysis of the reasons that move people to migrate from the countryside to the town and vice versa;
3. creation of contacts and interaction with the Corbi local inhabitants;
4. implementation of a deep rooted work to recover the ancient stories, traditions and heritages;
5. development with participants of new working methods – non formal education techniques and story telling - that they can afterwards use in their daily activities with youngsters, adults and elderly.
