Aims & objectives

The training course “Opening the Door to New Volunteering Fields – Focus on Cultural Institutions” (Prague, 26–29 May 2025) aimed to strengthen the capacities of youth and cultural workers in developing high-quality European Solidarity Corps (ESC) opportunities in the cultural sector. The training addressed the need to broaden volunteering fields, making cultural institutions more inclusive and attractive for young volunteers. It supported organisations in understanding ESC priorities, funding mechanisms, and practical tools, while fostering collaboration across Europe.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training gathered 28 participants from across programme and partner countries, representing youth organisations, cultural institutions, museums, libraries, grassroots initiatives, and public institutions. The group was highly international and diverse, with participants ranging from newcomers to experienced ESC coordinators. The training team consisted of two international trainers, in collaboration with the Czech National Agency and SALTO ESC Resource Centre, as well as guest speakers including an ESC volunteer, a Solidarity Project representative, and a Quality Label organisation.

Training methods used & main activities

The methodology was fully based on non-formal education and experiential learning. Key methods included:
- Interactive learning: World Café, rotating workshops, storytelling, role play.
- Creative tools: ESC Novel (visual storytelling), EDU-ZINE journaling, metaphorical art.
- Self-reflection: daily journaling, personal vision boards, “Postcard to the Future.”
- Peer learning: organisational presentations, interviews, and partner exchanges.
- Expert input: contributions from ESC stakeholders and experienced practitioners.
The learning process was participatory, inclusive, and co-created with the participants.

Outcomes of the activity

The training achieved several outcomes:
- Strengthened understanding of the ESC framework and its opportunities in cultural institutions.
- Development of draft action plans for future volunteering projects at individual and organisational levels.
- Creation of new partnerships and project ideas across borders.
- Increased motivation and clarity among participants for engaging with ESC and solidarity initiatives.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

As a full-time trainer, I was responsible for co-designing the training programme together with my co-trainer, preparing methodological tools, and facilitating plenary and group sessions.

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
