The training activity aimed to bring the history of Nicosia to life through interactive walks, engaging participants in immersive experiences that evoke various historical eras. The objectives included:
Historical Education: Educating participants about the history of Nicosia by immersing them in key historical periods through interactive storytelling and activities.
Cultural Preservation: Highlighting elements of Nicosia's intangible cultural heritage and promoting appreciation for its rich historical and cultural diversity.
Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation and interaction among participants, including youth volunteers, townspeople, tourists, and families, to foster a sense of community and shared heritage.
Inclusivity: Making historical education accessible to diverse audiences, including those who cannot afford to visit museums or historical sites, through free, open-to-the-public walking tours.
The training activity aligned with the goals of the collaborating organizations, including Politistiko Ergastiri Agioi Omologites, the Nicosia Municipality, and the Leventis Municipal Museum, to promote cultural heritage, community engagement, and historical education.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group of the activity comprised approximately 500 participants, including youth volunteers (potentially including international ones), townspeople, tourists, young people, students, and families. While specific countries or nationalities were not mentioned in the provided information, the activity likely involved local and international volunteers who took on the role of animators to guide the interactive walks and engage participants in historical reenactments.

Training methods used & main activities

The training employed non-formal learning methods to engage participants actively and facilitate their understanding of Nicosia's history. Examples of methods used may include:
Interactive Walks: Guided tours through Nicosia's old town with stops at key historical sites, each representing a different historical period.
Role-playing: Animators dressed in period costumes portraying characters from various historical eras, engaging participants in interactive dialogues and activities.
Storytelling: Narratives and anecdotes shared by animators to bring historical periods to life, allowing participants to experience the city's history firsthand.
Games and Activities: Interactive games, dances, and other activities at each stop to encourage active participation and deepen participants' engagement with the historical content.
These methods aimed to create an immersive and engaging learning experience, allowing participants to connect with Nicosia's history on a personal and emotional level.

Outcomes of the activity

The training activity likely achieved several outcomes:
Historical Education: Participants gained a deeper understanding of Nicosia's history and cultural heritage, experiencing key historical periods firsthand through immersive storytelling and activities.
Community Engagement: The walking tours fostered a sense of community and shared heritage among participants, encouraging interaction and dialogue between diverse groups of locals and tourists.
Cultural Appreciation: Participants developed a greater appreciation for Nicosia's cultural diversity and intangible heritage, recognizing the city's significance as a historical and cultural hub.
Publications or websites documenting the training may include reports, testimonials, and promotional materials shared by the collaborating organizations or local media outlets.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Content Development: Contributing to the development of scripts, dialogues, and interactive activities for the historical reenactments, ensuring historical accuracy and educational value.
Participant Engagement: Facilitating participant engagement and interaction during the walks, encouraging active participation and dialogue to enhance the learning experience.
Evaluation and Feedback: Collecting feedback from participants and team members to evaluate the effectiveness of the training methods and identify areas for improvement in future iterations of the project.
