TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Martin Fischer
The training consisted of two components, first we had a three day briefing for the participants as preparation, then we joined the European Dialogue on Internet Governance.
The aims and objectives of the training included:
- awareness for the topics and current discussions in the field of Internet Governance;
- understanding of policy making, advocacy and campaigning in the virtual space;
- finding approaches towards different stakeholders in the Internet Governance arena;
- networking amongst participants and towards other stakeholders;
- inspire activism and active follow up by the participants;
- speak up on behalf of youth at the European Dialogue on Internet Governance;
The seminar was attended by 29 participants from 11 different European countries.
The training required a lot of formal input, whilst my focus was a non-formal follow up to the inputs to ensure a better retention of the knowledge and space to understand and question the content. I applied mostly open space methodology and various discussion format, in order to create a mix of individual reflection time and small group feedback.
The training broke down the topics in the field of Internet Governance to the participants and provided a solid understanding for the core issues at hand. The active participation in the European Dialogue on Internet proofed the success, which showed in activist actions during the conference, tweeting, follow up questions and interviews undertaken by the participants. Next to various newspaper articles several of the participants also created blogs and articles in their own frameworks. An organisational overview can be found at www.newmediasummerschool.org
I was head-trainer and coordinated the work of the other trainers, set up the programme and briefed the speakers. I also implemented several activities that required deeper insight into the topics.
