Aims & objectives

The international training course ‘Media Sapiens: Training Course on Media Literacy for Youth Workers’ was organized with the support of the Erasmus + Programme. The aim of this training was to train youth workers on media literacy. It increased the participants` knowledge on media literacy (key terms, concepts) with special focus on following topics: to analyze and evaluate media messages and differentiate objective information from disinformation and misinformation (fake x real news), construction of media messages, impact of media messages on public opinion and how media
influences creating ‘opinion bubbles’. This training also developed participants` competencies to implicate new gained experiences into their work with young people. ‘Mission: Reconnect’, z.s. as an organizer of this training implements a variety of projects focused on competency development of youth and these working with youth, including projects supported by the Erasmus + Programme.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group of this activity were youth workers. This training brought together 24 participants from 8 countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Latvia, North Macedonia, and Poland).

Training methods used & main activities

The project included activities based on non-formal education that provided the participants an opportunity to take part in interactive presentations, discussions on the topics related to media literacy. Moreover, the participants worked in various groups on creating new media content as well as on new project ideas. The project also included game-based workshops delivered by the Czech group 'Fakescape' using game-based activities to increase the media literacy of young people.

Outcomes of the activity

The participants increased their competences in the field of media literacy. They explored new methods, tools that they can use at their work with young people. They created new project ideas supporting future cooperation between the partners on the issues connected with media literacy.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

My role in the trainers' team was to overtook the role of an expert in the area of media, journalism, analyzing, and deconstructing media messages. I contributed in this training on the sessions related to identifying fake news and video making. Through the training, I demonstrated my expertise as a journalist and media expert. Furthermore, I was fully capable to transfer my knowledge in the field of non-formal learning.
and cooperate with other members of the expert team on delivering sessions based on using interactive
methods and tools.

I worked on this training for 7 days as a full time trainer.
