MAIA

The training activity took place
in Morimondo (MI) Italy
organised by Young Effect Association
04/09/2011-10/09/2011

Aims & objectives

The main aim of our training course was to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes of youth workers and youth leaders working with young people in rural and suburban areas struggling with social exclusion, poverty and so develop in them a new spirit for challenges and initiatives.
objective improved knowledge and skills to youth workers’, working with young people, who are struggling with social exclusion, sense of boredom and other difficulties in isolated areas.
In addition to this MAIA wanted to:
-analyze the problems of those living in rural areas but also see the potentiality of sustainable development.
-improve youth workers’ and the youth’ awareness of active citizenship,
-provide youth workers with methods and motivation techniques, which enable them to work efficiently in their areas.
-support youth works in rural areas, to improve the quality of these works, reflect on sustainable work and give information about European Union Youth Programs and give them opportunity to make new projects.
-give to the organizations working in rural areas the opportunity to share their experiences and their works, and to establish an inter-organizational net.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Youth workers and youth leaders from Turkey, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Spain, Romania, Malta and Italy cooperated in the project. Every country was represented by 2 participants.

Training methods used & main activities

Working methods were established on the principles of non-formal education. In these methods I applied a participant-centred strategy. Participants were the key points of the project.
The training course was performed using booklets published by Salto Inclusion Source Center, t-kits and educational tools.
Participants studied on sharing their past experiences and making an idea of exchange. Among our methods assessments played very important role. Team building activities, icebreakers, role games, simulation games were used during the project.

Outcomes of the activity

Most of the participants who attended the project were from the rural areas and were abroad for the first time and most probably this situation strengthened its effect on them. This side of the project added much to their intercultural learning. Thanks to the project, youth movements were established and in this journey they found the chance to enlighten themselves about some other cultures and they compared and contrast the features of them with their own. Through this project, we developed active citizenship of youth living in the rural communities.
