Aims & objectives

The training course aimed to support democratic youth participation in Belarus based on the Council of Europe standards and had the following objectives:
• To strengthen participants’ understanding of key concepts of democratic citizenship and human rights education with young people;
• To introduce participants and their organisations with the work of the Council of Europe, and its relevant entities, in particular related to democratic citizenship and youth participation;
● To develop and/or improve relevant skills, knowledge and competencies of youth activists to advocate for and engage with democratic values and processes;
● To develop participants’ skills for self-organisation, resilience, and democratic leadership of youth organisations;
● To identify needs and priorities for further work with youth leaders and multipliers for democratic civil society youth organisations.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Participants of this training course were activists from youth or other civil society organisations, initiatives or youth projects, residing in Belarus or in a member state of the Council of Europe. The composition of trainers' team was international.

Training methods used & main activities

The training course was based on the principles and approaches of democratic citizenship and human rights education, being designed to be an experience of mutual learning and sharing among participants. The overall course gave participants the opportunity to experience, reflect and discuss issues related to the role and participation of young people in democratic processes.

Outcomes of the activity

The training course successfully achieved its objectives, contributing to the advancement of democratic youth participation in Belarus in alignment with Council of Europe standards. Participants deepened their understanding of key concepts related to democratic citizenship and human rights education for young people. Participants improved their skills, knowledge, and competencies to advocate for and engage with democratic values and processes. The training also played a crucial role in enhancing participants' skills in self-organization, resilience, and democratic leadership within youth organizations. Additionally, it provided a platform to identify the needs and priorities for future work with youth leaders and multipliers involved in democratic civil society youth organizations. Overall, the outcomes reflect a strengthened foundation for democratic youth engagement in Belarus.

I worked on this training course full-time as a trainer. Participated in the preparation and implementation of the program.
