Aims & objectives

Intercamp is an international scout camp held every year. It is a weekend for scouts to meet and to develop international understanding and friendship through a weekend camp filled with scouting activities, fellowship and great memories. The INTERCAMP is an international scouting camp, held each year over the Whitsun weekend since 1967.

The main aim is to provide competence development (outdoor, cooperation, international communication and understanding, teamwork and others) of young people, as well as sharing a good practice and international youth work for team members and over 18 years old volunteers.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The event is orgaised for scouts between 11 and 16 years of age from all associations recognized by WOSM or WAGGGS. For 18 or older, there is a possibilty to become part of the international service team IST. Every yearm there are more than 7 countries from all over the World participating (Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Poland, Great Britain, USA, and others).

Training methods used & main activities

Intecamps over the years have mostly the same structure. There is an on-site program for not only building the scout competences, but also to promote the history and a reginal specification of the place of the event (it changes every year). During the hike participants can experience the wonderful nature in the Eifel National Park and practice their outdoor skills as much as teamwork while going through some challenges together. And there is as well "the Plaza", where participants can meet, and get involved in some activities for community building, international understanding, tasting different kinds of food from participating countires and to share their scout experience and knowledge.

Outcomes of the activity

After participating in the Intercamp event, all of the 3 000 young people are now feeling more motivated to do some acitivities on volunteering basis, feel more motivated to spread the idea of scouting around, to feel more involved in a youth work in generaly, and have a sence of feeling European.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was one of two members of the team responsible for preparing and bringing 500 young people and 60 youth workers from CZ to the event, from preparing the call, prep meeting, PR, till helping out with finding a siutable transport for all of them. And on spot I was responsible for carrying out one of the on-site programme activity on my own, as well as some smaller tasks realted to managing Czech IST (Czech youth leaders, that I was responsible for).

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
