in Finland
organised by Finnish National Agency

Aims & objectives

The call for participants outlined the following aims for the TC:
• Explore democracy and active participation,
• Explore Youth in Action 1.3 Youth Democracy Projects, and
• Present Youth Democracy Projects in an accessible way to mobilise communities and their young people.
Objectives:
• Discuss characteristics of democracy and active participation of young people in Europe,
• Motivate participants and help them gain competences in using Action 1.3 Youth Democracy Projects, and
• Help them discover innovative ways and approaches to address the needs of their own communities through Action 1.3 Youth Democracy Projects.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training targeted mainly multipliers, youth workers, youth leaders, social workers, community workers and other individuals working with young people who are motivated to think creatively on how to help young people participate more actively in society, and who are interested to know more about Action 1.3 and youth in action.

Training methods used & main activities

This training course was facilitated mainly through non-formal education methods. The design and selected approaches of the training course supported the guidelines and principles of the Youth in Action -programme, adapting to different learning styles of the participants.

Outcomes of the activity

The expected outcomes of the training as they were described in the call for participants:
• Demystify democracy and active participation. You will work to clarify and reach a common understanding of the terms “democracy” and “active participation”. Working with other people coming from different backgrounds and cultures, you will be able to share experiences and knowledge which will be further developed and supported through thematic input and the use of various methods.
• Explore and investigate the role of young people in democratic processes in society. You will be challenged to look into the different spheres of young people's everyday life, and what facilitates or blocks their active participation in society.
• Information about Action 1.3 Youth Democracy Projects. You will be able to understand better the aims and objectives of this TC. Another benefit would be that you will act as a multiplier for the YiA and action 1.3 in general.
• Other innovative ways to enhance democracy amongst young people. You will be challenged to think creatively on new ways to motivate young people to be active in their own communities.
