The "YOU(TH) ACT FOR FUTURE" training activity aimed to empower youth towards climate action and sustainable community development. It sought to address the urgent need for youth engagement in combating climate change and fostering sustainable practices. The training activity aimed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to take active roles in climate resilience initiatives and promote sustainable lifestyles. It aligned with the goals of the European Students' Union (ESU) and the Youth Department of the Council of Europe to promote youth activism, environmental stewardship, and global citizenship.
The target group of the activity comprised young people aged between 18 to 29 years old from various nationalities across the 47 member states of the Council of Europe and parties to the European Cultural Convention. The activity involved participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering international collaboration and exchange of ideas. The training team included trainers and experts from different fields, providing a rich and inclusive learning environment.
The training utilized a variety of non-formal learning methods to engage participants actively and facilitate meaningful learning experiences. Examples of training methods used include:
Interactive workshops on climate science, sustainability principles, and community activism.
Group discussions and debates on key environmental and social issues.
Role-playing and simulation exercises to explore real-world challenges and solutions.
Outdoor activities and field trips to observe sustainable practices in action.
Creative sessions such as storytelling, art, and theater to inspire innovative thinking and advocacy.
Reflective practices including journaling, group reflections, and peer feedback to enhance self-awareness and learning.
The training activity achieved several outcomes:
Increased awareness and understanding of climate change issues and sustainable development goals among participants.
Empowerment of youth to take active roles in climate action and community engagement initiatives.
Strengthened cross-cultural understanding and collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Development of practical skills and strategies for implementing sustainable practices and advocating for change in participants' communities.
