TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Heidi JyrkkÀ
The training was organised for the participants of European Solidarity Corps. The 18 young volunteers of the ESC work experience were given a good introduction to the ESC framework, working in Villa Elba, daily responsibilities and rights as a volunteer in the youth centre, to the support staff of the project, conflict management and communication.
As a trainer I prepared the young people for the work experience but I also worked for the young people to understand the reasons they participate the programme and I gave more insight to think why and which way their participation in ESC could be useful in their future.
The group was suppose to be very international representing different nationalities, but finally the group was formed by volunteers only currently inside the borders of Finland because of the on-going COVID pandemic and border closures. The training was lead in both, Finnish and English simutaneously and participants were Finnish and Thai. Some spoke only Finnish, and some spoke only English.
For every part of the training we used different type of a non-formal method. We used problem solving methods, group tasks indoors and outdoors with different groups, learning cafe, social media as a tool, quiz website, etc.
The participants were more familiar to each other, knew about each others background and learning/participatory difficulties of each other and were more respectful towards each others different skills/ways to participate.
We created an athmosphere to support their future work together.
Outcomes of the training are visible in Villa Elba's Instagram.
One of two responsible trainers (and mentor for the young people the following 6 weeks of work).
