Aims & objectives

Aim of the project was to empower youth workers with information and tools which will help them to prevent and change the radical attitude of general youth towards the refugees and raise inclusion of refugees and religious minorities into the society.
The specific objectives of the project were following:
- analyse reasons and stages of radicalisation among the youth;
- realize what needs of young people should be fulfilled to prevent their potential radicalisation;
- exchange the experience among the participants and evaluate the position of refugees throughout the Europe to build up the knowledge and awareness about it;
- to increase participants' knowledge and raise their awareness about social exclusion;
- to develop youth workers' skills and competences to implement follow-up activities which aim at raising inclusion and cooperation with critical groups - refugees, migrants and religious minorities;
- create tools which youth workers will use during their daily duties and which will deepen the understanding and knowledge of youth about the reasons and struggles of refugees therefore to promote solidarity and help to prevent the radicalisation of young people;
- to promote intercultural and inter-religious dialogue by coming up with different sorts of discussion and debates;
- to introduce different methods which enhance critical thinking and evaluation of information sources when it comes to media manipulation.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Target group: 33 youth workers and youth leaders from Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Romania, Italy, the Republic of North Macedonia, Hungary.

Training methods used & main activities

First days we were concentrated on introduction to the venue and project, participants got to know each other and played team building activities in order to create good group dynamics. Participants got familiar with the agenda, Youthpass, non-formal education and express their fears and expectations.
For upcoming days we used variety of non-formal education methods. Among them, different simulations and role-playing activities – the knowledge and understanding about refugees and cultural minorities and their position in society. We included “Theatre of oppressed“ activity to show participants how to turn from spectators of these issues into actors and take an initiative.
The last day of the project was mostly about reflection and evaluation and ideas for follow-up activities participant created for their organisations. Participants filled in their Youthpass, reflected on their learning outcomes and on the fears and expectations they came to the project with.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants created their own initiative in a form of local street action and delivered it in the streets of Brno. Participants brought their knowledge into reality, they learned by doing - how to create local activity and they also delivered it. They interacted with local population and immediately created impact on them. After street action we reflected on the activity and developed ideas for similar initiatives participants can create in their home countries.
