The DigUpSkill Training Course used a participatory, non-formal education approach, combining experiential learning, peer learning and facilitated reflection. Participants were actively involved through icebreakers and name games, group agreements, expectations-fears-contributions exercises, brainstorming, World Café discussions and creative presentations. These methods were designed to build trust within the group while encouraging participants to contribute their own knowledge and experiences.
A strong emphasis was placed on analytical and practical methods. Participants used tools such as PEST and SWOT analysis to explore digital youth work and their own use of digital tools, while case studies were used to discuss digital safety topics such as GDPR, data protection and cyberbullying. The programme also included hands-on group work in which participants developed dissemination activities, communication campaigns and follow-up action plans, allowing them to apply concepts directly to realistic youth work contexts.
Peer-to-peer learning and facilitated dialogue were also central. Methods such as Fishbowl discussions, speed dating, participant-led Open Space workshops and structured networking enabled participants to exchange practices, expertise and professional experiences. The Cicero storytelling method was used to support public speaking and the creation of clear, engaging digital content, while peer feedback helped participants improve the materials and activities they developed during the course.
Reflection and evaluation were integrated throughout the programme. Daily reflection groups, anonymous digital feedback, Blob Tree exercises, Dixit cards, individual Youthpass reflection and a final Mentimeter evaluation were used to help participants assess their learning, group dynamics, challenges and personal contribution. Overall, the methodology combined learning by doing, collaborative learning, facilitated discussion, self-reflection and continuous feedback.
