D-e-zign it!

The training activity took place
in Mihajlovo, Macedonia
organised by International Young Naturefriends – IYNF
18th - 23rd October 2016

Aims & objectives

"D-e-zign it!" was IYNF’s final activity of 2016, a year dedicated to e-participation.
It aimed both at empowering young people to be active though the online media and to stimulate the development and implementation on their ideas.

Its objectives were defined as follows:

• to apply the newly discovered opportunities of e-participation that are beneficial for the work of IYNF and the network
• to develop new project ideas with e-participation components, especially aimed at inclusion (encouraging intergenerational exchange and inclusion of vulnerable groups such as people with migration background, people from minorities and people with impairments or health issues that make it otherwise difficult for them to participate in international youth activities)
• to include the e-participation components into the future international projects, while clearly considering its opportunities and threats
• to create a strategy on maintaining a good level of involvement of the IYNF group of e-volunteers.

This activity created space for providing and exchanging valuable updated knowledge and skills on the topic of e-participation and creating a bridge with 2017’s topic of migration and refugees “borderfree solidarity”.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

There were 27 participants from 14 different countries: Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain, Latvia, The Netherlands, France, UK, Hungary, Belgium, Macedonia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Czech Republic.
Participants were a mixture of representatives of IYNF member and partner organisations, volunteers and representatives
of other youth organisations that share the same values.
The team of trainers was formed by a Portuguese and a Slovak and the support team was composed of 5 people.

Training methods used & main activities

The programme was clearly designed in a flow that had six stages, one per day: welcome and getting to know each other, introduction and follow up on the progress, we are all on the same page, experience it, design it, evaluation and follow up.
Open Space Technology, Learning Space Dynamics, team-buildings, word puzzles, brainstorming, action bound, treasure hunt, selfy run, workshop, input sessions on project management, e-tools, communication strategies, privacy and security online, activism.

Outcomes of the activity

Through the programme, participants gained competences that empowered them to create their own activities/projects, by identifying needs and potentialities, forming teams, designing action plans, applying the knowledge gained.
The ten project proposals that came to a mature state of planning are:
Democracy workshop by the participant from the UK, Pic-a-place by a participant from Latvia, Training Course on Eco-food by the participant from Poland, as well as the Training Courses Let’s dance and Eco-mountaineering, Hiking tourism, Training Course on personal development "Puzzle piece of a bigger picture"
by one of the Ukrainian participants, Ecomaps LV by another Latvian participant, Open your eyes an exhibition about propaganda in Hungary by the Hungarian participants, Borderland Art exhibition in Prague by the Italian participant and finally the Online Campaign on migration and refugee matters which involves different people and aspects.
The Online Campaign has already launched a Statement that is the Point of Departure for 2017 and can be read here:
