Capoeira as a tool when working with youth with fewer opportunities

Aims & objectives

Aims:
- To develop competences of capoeira coaches for using capoeira as a educational tool while working with youth with fewer opportunities

- To strengthen the capacities of partner organizations for work with youth with fewer opportunities

Objectives:
- To expand the knowledge and understanding of:
o youth with fewer opportunities
o non-formal education
o Youth in action program
o experiential learning
- To improve participants competences and motivation for using capoeira as a tool for educational work with youth with fewer opportunities
- To exchange experiences and examples of good practice about work with youth with fewer opportunities through capoeira
- To explore and think about influence that European culture has on capoeira
- To create booklet with workshops that combine non-formal education and capoeira training
- To promote capoeira as a tool for educational work with youth with fewer opportunities within general public, NGO that work with youth with fewer opportunities and capoeira organizations

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

It will gather 18 participants from 4 countries: Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic. Participants were trainers of capoeira that work or are willing to work with youth with fewer opportunities.

Training methods used & main activities

Training was based on the principles of non-formal learning and consisted of theoretical inputs, experiential exercises and capoeira elements.

Outcomes of the activity

Through training course participants expanded their knowledge on the concept of youth with fewer opportunities and principles and methodology of non-formal learning. They shared examples of good practices and they discussed possibilities for future projects. They created workshops that combine capoeira training elements and educational elements. All created will be published in a brochure.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I prepared the training program and delivered it. I was in charge for all parts connected with these topics about: non-formal education, learning, youth with fewer opportunist, socio-pedagogical youth work, creation of workshops. My colleague was in charge for the capoeira elements and making connections between capoeira trainings and socio-pedagogical youth work. Also I did the written and oral evaluation of the course.

I worked on this training for 7 days as a full time trainer.
