Aims & objectives

The project, having a systemic approach, was composed of 3 different training activities, each of them focus on a different target role of those involved in mobility projects with an inclusive approach for young people with intellectual disabilities.
This training had the main objective of develop specific competences on accompanying persons for participants with intellectual disabilities on European mobility projects.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The TC involved 27 youth workers from Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Hungary, Portugal, Sweden, Greece, Malta, Austria and Latvia. They have the role within their organisations of accompanying person in mobility projects.

Training methods used & main activities

Non formal education based approach, supporting the competence development of the participants.
Methods included experiential learning activities, simulations, positioning exercises, guided reflection, peer learning, small group work, facilitated dialogue, creative methods, card-based reflection, storytelling, case studies, scenario analysis, rights-based discussions, learning harvesting, guided visualization, informal learning and intercultural exchange.

Outcomes of the activity

A strong result of the process was the development of a clearer understanding of the role of the accompanying person by participants. Another relevant outcome was the increased awareness of professional and personal boundaries. Participants identified the importance of setting limits, protecting their own wellbeing, and using their personal resources in a sustainable way. The training also contributed to a stronger awareness of diversity, vulnerability and different perspectives. Participants reflected on disability, inclusion, society and their own professional practice from new angles.

Full-time senior trainer. Design and implementation of the programme.
