Aims & objectives

The course aimed to show how social theatre and the street art methods of Commedia dell'Arte could be used as a tool for the participants to get to know their inner-self, strengthen their communication skills and become fully aware of themselves and of their abilities.

The main objectives of the course can be summarized in the following points:

• To create a sharing platform & opportunity for organisations and people interested/experienced in developing theatre based approaches for working with young people;

• To work towards understanding how practising theatre and street art can lead to improve the creativity and to foster social inclusion and the active participation of young people in society;

• To create a social experience of community, through sharing living and working spaces, participating in housekeeping tasks and daily practices, and to valorise this as an opportunity for learning and personal and social growth.

Training methods used & main activities

A wide mix of non-formal educational methods such as group work, workshops, reflections and Open Space Technology.

Alongside the training sessions, social theatre-based experiential methods have been included which were based mainly based on Commedia dell'Arte and Living Theatre tools.

Outcomes of the activity

During the course, the group of participants had the opportunity to interact and be involved in a practical experience of non-formal activities performing in a local school, which helped them to create a bridge between formal and non formal education. The performance was attended by 200 students and it has been a great success, causing the interest of many young people towards the content of the course.

Participants of the training gave very positive feedback already at the end of course, then again in the evaluation questionnaires and in their Youthpasses.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I've designed the training course and, together with my due above mentioned colleagues, developed the methods used for the training.

My role was to facilitate the course (in a team of three) and to coordinate all the activities which took part in it. My areas of expertise during the course were mainly learning and non-formal education.

I worked on this training for 7 days as a full time trainer.
