Simulation Exercise
An energetic, obstacle-course-style game that visualises how algorithms trap users inside filter bubbles — challenging players to break free by identifying credible information and escaping echo chambers.
To build awareness of algorithmic influence and digital bias by:
a) Helping players recognise how filter bubbles restrict exposure to diverse information; and
b) Encouraging proactive efforts to seek balanced, credible perspectives online.
Developed under the Unfake Social Media project’s Social Media Simulation category, Filter Bubble Run transforms algorithmic bias into an interactive challenge. Players navigate a fast-paced obstacle course filled with misinformation traps and echo chambers while collecting verified sources to escape the filter bubble before time runs out.
Through active engagement, players experience how social media algorithms reinforce existing beliefs, limit perspective diversity, and distort truth-seeking behaviour. The race to break free becomes a lesson in critical awareness and digital autonomy.
The game builds understanding of how personalisation and content curation shape perception — empowering participants to think independently and challenge online echo chambers.
