The Rise & Shine Policy Paper presents key findings and recommendations on youth worker well-being, based on practice-based insights from six European countries, linking individual needs with organisational and policy-level action.

Aims of the tool

The aim of the Rise & Shine Policy Paper is to highlight the real well-being needs of youth workers and to provide evidence-based recommendations for organisations, policymakers, and project developers to better support sustainable youth work.

Description of the tool

The Rise & Shine Policy Paper is an analytical and advocacy-oriented resource grounded in feedback from youth workers across six European countries. It brings together insights from practice, national contexts, and European policy frameworks to explore how mental well-being, working conditions, and structural support affect youth workers’ professional sustainability.

The paper identifies key challenges faced by youth workers, such as workload pressure, emotional labour, and limited access to supervision or reflective spaces, and translates these findings into concrete, actionable recommendations. It emphasises the importance of recognition, time for reflection, peer support, and organisational responsibility in maintaining youth worker well-being.

Through engaging with the Policy Paper, readers will:
1) gain a clearer understanding of youth worker well-being needs across different European contexts,
2) recognise the link between individual well-being and structural and policy-level conditions,
3) identify practical recommendations that can inform policy development, organisational strategies, and future projects,
4) use the findings as inspiration for advocacy, programme design, and systemic change in the youth work sector.

This Policy Paper is a part of the Rise and Shine online course which can be found here: https://courses.trainingclub.eu/course/index.php?categoryid=38
