A Music, Dance & Rhythm Training Guide for Youth Inclusion, Dialogue & Peace-Building

Aims of the tool

The training aims to strengthen the capacity of youth workers, teachers, cultural mediators, and peer facilitators to use music, dance, and arts-based non-formal education methods as effective tools for promoting social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, reconciliation, and peacebuilding among young people. By engaging participants in experiential and creative processes, it enhances empathy, communication, and collaboration skills, fostering a sense of shared identity and mutual respect across cultural and social boundaries.

Through a sequence of adaptable and participatory workshops, the training encourages practitioners to translate artistic expression into instruments of learning and social transformation. Participants gain practical tools to design and facilitate inclusive activities that bridge divides, celebrate diversity, and empower youth to rehearse peaceful coexistence in their communities—one rhythm, movement, and shared creative act at a time.

Description of the tool

This guide compiles 13 experiential workshops co-developed and tested by the RADIOPEACE project partners, offering a complete pedagogical pathway for using music, dance, and artistic expression as tools for inclusion, reconciliation, and intercultural dialogue. Each chapter provides a ready-to-use facilitation script—including warm-up, step-by-step delivery, reflection prompts, adaptation tips, and evaluation methods—allowing youth workers to implement or customise activities across diverse educational and cultural contexts.

Beyond being a practical manual, the guide reflects a participatory design methodology rooted in co-creation, experimentation, and reflection. It demonstrates how artistic collaboration can nurture empathy, rebuild trust, and promote peaceful coexistence—turning creative practice into a rehearsal space for dialogue and understanding. From rhythm circles and peace murals to choreographic storytelling, every session reinforces the same message: peace is learned through shared movement, sound, and creativity before it becomes lived reality.
