Exercise
Photo hunting is fun and interactive method for young people to look for solutions, build situations, boost creativity and practise problem solving skills.
Through such an art form, participants express their creativity and convey human rights issues related message that it is very important topic to the world. Outside activity helps easier involve locals and raise awareness of local community members about programme, activities, non-formal education principles and topic-related issues.
Activity is suitable for 10-30 youngsters, but can be more as well.
Youngsters divide in groups of 5-6 people and receive different situations related to intolerance / violation of human rights in life. Young people get time to go outside and to make pictures / videos, related to the situations they have thrown. The more difficult the picture / video is, the more points the participants receive.
Situations for photo/video hunting activity:
1. Depict a situation where a person has experienced intolerance due to their sexual orientation from a group of people. Also, in this situation, the person tried to fight for their rights, but the authorities supported the group’s opinion and behaviour.
2. Depict the situation of intolerance / violation of rights in close environment. The photo / video must include a chair, scissors, and a lipstick.
3. Depict a situation of age discrimination, but the person being discriminated against must look happy.
4. Film a short unethical advertisement that in some way discriminates 3 different groups of people. The words electricity, marriage and the Republic of South Africa must be mentioned in the advertisement.
5. Depict how a woman/man who constantly hears sexual remarks from their boss at work feels. People's faces cannot be seen in the photo / video.
6. Depict the consequences of racial bullying in childhood that appears in adult life. The photo / video must include a mirror.
7. Depict gender inequality in work environment. In this situation, a man should be discriminated against.
8. Illustrate a situation that reflects the possible discrimination that refugees may experience in their daily lives. Include elements of nature (trees, grass, flowers, stones ...).
9. Illustrate the exclusion a person experiences at the moment they are discriminated against. Only people's faces can be seen in the photo / video.
