A practical toolkit to observe how artistic experiences influence emotions, awareness and willingness to act for the environment. Designed for artists, festivals and educators, it combines questionnaires, visual tools and mixed data analysis.

Aims of the tool

The tool aims to:
· Observe the emotional impact of artistic experiences.
· Explore how art can foster environmental awareness and willingness to act.
· Support artists and cultural organisers in improving the educational impact of their work.
· Provide a simple, replicable methodology adaptable across Europe.

Description of the tool

This toolkit was developed within the Erasmus+ project Art Eco Soc to observe and better understand how artistic experiences contribute to environmental awareness and civic engagement among adult audiences.

It provides a practical, field-tested methodology combining individual questionnaires, visual participatory tools (Wheel of Resonances and Commitment Map), and contextual analysis of artistic programming. The approach allows practitioners to collect both qualitative and quantitative data in a lightweight and accessible way.

Rather than measuring impact in a normative way, the methodology supports observation, interpretation and continuous improvement. It helps artists and cultural organisers identify how emotions, imagination and reflection may foster awareness and willingness to act.

Tested in France and Italy with over 100 participants, the toolkit is designed to be adaptable, transferable and replicable across European cultural and educational contexts, contributing to quality enhancement in arts-based environmental education.
