Presentation
Three participatory training tools fostering gender equality, youth leadership, and digital activism through feminist theory, intersectionality, and creative online campaigning.
The tools aim to raise awareness about gender inequalities, build participants’ understanding of feminist theory and intersectionality, and strengthen their capacity to lead social change. They are designed to empower young people to become active agents of equality through participatory workshops, leadership development, and creative digital activism. By combining theory with hands-on activities, the tools foster critical thinking, collective action, and community engagement both online and offline.
This tool is a three-part participatory learning resource developed during the Equal Futures International Workshop (Esbjerg, Denmark, January 2025). It combines interactive methods, feminist pedagogy, and experiential learning to empower young people to become agents of gender equality and social justice.
The tool is divided into three interconnected modules:
Gender Equality & Key Concepts: Participants explore the foundations of gender equality, gender roles, stereotypes, and patriarchy. Activities promote critical reflection on how gender norms operate in various cultural contexts and how they intersect with power and privilege.
Feminist Theory, Intersectionality & Advocacy Skills: This module introduces key feminist thinkers and the concept of intersectionality. It supports youth in recognizing the multiple layers of discrimination that different individuals experience and teaches them how to advocate for systemic change through empathy, research, and voice.
Leadership Development & Digital Activism: Participants engage in confidence-building exercises, leadership role-plays, and hands-on digital campaign creation. This module bridges empowerment with activism, enabling young people to apply their learning in online spaces through tools such as social media storytelling, digital art, and community outreach strategies.
By engaging with this tool, participants will:
- Understand key gender-related concepts such as equality, patriarchy, gender roles, and stereotypes
- Develop a working knowledge of feminist theory and intersectionality
- Identify and analyze structures of discrimination and privilege in their own societies
- Gain practical advocacy skills for creating inclusive and rights-based change
- Build personal leadership competencies such as confidence, resilience, empathy, and strategic thinking
- Learn how to use digital platforms and creative tools for feminist activism and civic engagement
- Collaborate in diverse teams and reflect on their own values, biases, and responsibilities as changemakers
This tool is designed for youth workers, educators, trainers, and youth leaders who want to facilitate meaningful learning experiences around gender justice, civic engagement, and youth empowerment in both online and offline settings.
