How to Make Apprenticeships Inclusive and Accessible for People with Disabilities: challenges and solutions

The aim of the article is to raise awareness about the barriers faced by deaf and hard of hearing apprentices and to promote a more inclusive apprenticeship framework. It also highlights the objectives of the QSA4Disability project to create accessible and equitable apprenticeship opportunities.

This article outlines the significant barriers faced by deaf and hard of hearing individuals in apprenticeship programs, including communication challenges, lack of accessible training materials, and insufficient support from employers. It emphasizes the need for effective accommodations such as sign language interpreters, captioning, and assistive technologies. The QSA4Disability project aligns with these needs by developing a comprehensive framework to create inclusive apprenticeship experiences, including a toolbox, an e-space for communication, and a community of practices. The project aims to support the integration of deaf and hard of hearing people in the workforce through transnational and distance apprenticeship programs.
