This Guidebook is a practical toolkit of four non-formal education workshops using systems thinking, root-cause analysis, and creative communication to help young migrants understand global issues and develop critical thinking and civic engagement skills.
The aim of this document is to provide youth workers with a practical toolkit of non-formal education workshops designed to help young migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers better understand complex global issues and their links to local realities. The guide promotes critical thinking, systems thinking, and active citizenship by helping participants analyse root causes of global challenges such as inequality, climate change, migration, and political instability.
Through participatory activities, the document also aims to empower young migrants to reflect on their own experiences, engage in constructive dialogue, and develop solutions to complex social issues. In addition, it supports participants in communicating these issues effectively through storytelling and creative expression, allowing them to share their perspectives and become active contributors to social change within their communities.
The Crossroads Workshop Guidebook is a practical resource developed within the Crossroads Erasmus+ project to support youth workers in implementing non-formal education activities with young migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. It presents four structured workshops that help participants explore complex global issues such as migration, inequality, climate change, and political instability through participatory learning methods, including root cause analysis, systems thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and creative communication.
The document also provides facilitation guidelines to help youth workers adapt the activities to groups with different educational backgrounds and language levels, ensuring an inclusive learning environment. To increase accessibility and impact across different contexts, the guidebook has been translated into English, French, Romanian, and Portuguese, allowing organisations and youth workers across Europe to use and adapt the tools in their local work.
