Interactive APSE course: learn ecological soundscapes through fast quizzes, practical listening tasks, and youth‑friendly activities that build awareness, observation skills, and environmental sensitivity.
The tool aims to build environmental awareness and listening skills by guiding young people and youth workers through ecological soundscape exploration, using interactive quizzes and practical listening tasks to understand, map, and interpret natural and human-made acoustic environments.
The APSE Interactive Field Course is a digital learning tool designed to support youth workers, educators and facilitators who organise outdoor learning activities such as soundwalks, environmental workshops and field-based educational programmes.
The tool introduces the fundamental concepts of soundscape ecology and demonstrates how listening practices and simple acoustic observation techniques can be used to explore ecosystems, biodiversity and environmental change. Through 8 interactive modules and 21 quizzes, participants learn how sound can reveal ecological patterns and human impacts on natural environments.
The course consists of a structured sequence of modules combining short explanations with interactive questions that help participants reflect on the relationship between sound, biodiversity and climate. It provides immediate feedback through quizzes, enabling self-paced learning and knowledge reinforcement.
The tool can be used during field activities, training sessions, youth exchanges or environmental education workshops. It runs directly in a web browser and requires no installation or registration, making it accessible on smartphones, tablets or laptops during outdoor activities or group learning sessions.
The course was tested with 617 young participants in Italy, Greece and Spain within the APSE – Ecological Soundscapes project and supports non-formal learning methodologies combining digital interaction with experiential field observation.
