BadgeUp: A Structured Path That Turns Your Idea Into a Visible Result
A structured, badge-based framework that helps young people turn a personal idea into a finished, real-world result through weekly peer accountability groups, mentorship and visible progress tracking.
Aims of the tool
Help young people move from having ideas to actually finishing them, overcoming perfectionism, fear of failure and "choice paralysis."
Build peer accountability structures that make progress visible, trackable and socially supported.
Recognise competencies gained through non-formal learning in a clear, measurable way (12 badges tied to concrete evidence, aligned with Youthpass).
Strengthen transferable leadership and employability skills: problem observation, planning, resource allocation, teamwork, public presentation.
Combat isolation among young people by embedding individual projects in a supportive community.
Description of the tool
BadgeUp is a project-based learning framework built around one idea: projects move forward when decisions are made visible and responsibility is held in one place. Each participant chooses one real, personally meaningful project — creative, social, entrepreneurial or environmental — and commits to carrying it from idea to public outcome over a structured period.
The framework begins with a short introductory training that aligns expectations and introduces the twelve-badge sequence, then continues through weekly peer accountability meetings (in person or online) where participants report on progress, get feedback and hold each other accountable. Progress is not measured by effort or intention but by concrete evidence submitted for each badge, evaluated against a fixed set of criteria. Badges cover the full project cycle: problem observation, visioning, action planning, resource allocation, workflow organisation, active listening, team building, iterative refinement, public communication, ethical decision-making, impact assessment and public presentation.
The framework closes with a public presentation of each participant's finished project, followed by reflection and, where relevant, official recognition via Youthpass. A physical or digital "badge diary" lets participants track their own progress visually, which participant feedback identified as a strong motivational driver.

This tool is for
Young people aged roughly 15–30 with a personal creative, social, entrepreneurial or environmental project they want to complete — including students, thesis candidates, young creatives, and participants in youth exchanges or other Erasmus+ youth activities. Also directly usable by youth workers as a mentoring/facilitation framework.

Materials needed:
BadgeUp Handbook (PDF, includes the full badge system and facilitation guidance), physical or digital badge diary per participant, video conferencing tool (e.g. Zoom) for online sessions, a shared digital workspace for documentation and tracking (e.g. Notion), printed or digital badge assets.
Duration:
A 3-day introductory training kicks off the process, followed by roughly 9 months of weekly peer accountability meetings (approx. 60 minutes each) plus monthly coordination check-ins, during which participants work through the 12 badges in a fixed sequence at their own project's pace. The process concludes with a public final presentation and, for cross-border implementations, can include mixed international accountability groups for peer learning between countries.
