The tool aims to equip youth workers, educators, and organisations with practical skills, methods, and confidence to design and deliver inclusive non-formal and outdoor-based activities. It supports equal participation of young people with disabilities and fewer opportunities through adaptable, accessible, and youth-centred approaches.
This tool is a comprehensive, practice-oriented handbook created to support youth workers, educators, facilitators, and organisations in designing and delivering inclusive non-formal education (NFE) and outdoor-based activities. It brings together field-tested activities, step-by-step facilitation guidance, and concrete adaptations for working with mixed-ability groups, including young people with disabilities, sensory differences, and fewer opportunities.
Learning outcomes
After using this tool, learners will be able to:
Design and facilitate inclusive non-formal and outdoor-based activities for diverse and mixed-ability youth groups.
Apply core principles of inclusive facilitation, Universal Design for Learning, and psychological safety in youth work settings.
Identify and reduce barriers to participation related to sensory, physical, cognitive, emotional, or social needs.
Adapt activities to ensure equal participation, dignity, and autonomy for young people with disabilities and fewer opportunities.
Use inclusive and assistive digital tools to enhance accessibility and engagement.
Respond confidently to group dynamics, emotional needs, and unexpected situations in inclusive learning environments.
