Dignity in Community

The purpose of this project is to increase the interest of the local community of Marasesti town in the elderly people from The Care Home for Elderly "A New Chance".

The project activities aim to raise young people’s awareness about volunteering as a tool for active citizenship and as a means of solidarity and social responsibility.
The 4 volunteers will be mainly involved in occupational therapy activities with the elderly, aimed at spending leisure time pleasantly - reading, listening to music, creative workshops which stimulate creativity, competitive spirit and self-esteem; involving the elderly in practical activities to prove their usefulness both within the Care Home and in society (arts and crafts, making ornaments for different occasions: cards, trinkets, wickers, hand-made outfits for needy children, etc.)
The main objectives of this project are:
1. Involving 4 young volunteers, over a period of 6 months, in occupational therapy activities, socializing and leisure activities, targeted at the elder people aged 60-98 years within The Care Home “A New Chance".
2. By the end of the project, the 4 volunteers, aged 18-30 years, will be able to coordinate a team of volunteers to achieve their goals.
3. Improving the volunteers’ skills in managing the relationship with elderly people, by the end of the 6-month stage.
4. By the end of the project, the 4 volunteers will be able to write articles published in the “Volunteer Journal" where they describe their volunteer experience.

Participants’ profile
-4 young people aged 18-30 years old, willing to spend time with elder people, patient, empathetic, and eager to learn new things. The volunteers should be energetic, responsible and ready to feel useful to their peers and to be part of a team.
