Tophane Center of Vocational Excellence

Tophane Technical and Vocational High School (TMTAL) Established on March 29, 1868, Tophane
Technical and Vocational High School (TMTAL) has a distinguished history, dating back to its
establishment in 1868. Over the years, it has undergone several transformations, adapting to the
evolving needs of vocational and technical education.

• 1899: The institution was renamed Hamidiye Industrial School.
• 1910: Forging, smoothing, and moulding ateliers were re-established to enhance practical training.
• 1916: Departments for carpentry, fitting, turning, foundry, wood-turning, modeling, shoemaking, and
forging were inaugurated, marking a significant expansion of its technical education capabilities.
• 1943-1944: A new building housing four ateliers and classrooms was constructed, and a motor atelier
was opened.
• 1952: The school was renamed Bursa Male Industrial Institute.
• 1958: An Evening Vocational School was established. Additionally, an electricity department was
introduced during the 1963-1964 academic year, complementing the existing machinery department.
• 1974: The school adopted the name Bursa Technical High School and Industrial Vocational High School
School.
• 1986: The "Apprenticeship and Vocational Education Law" (Law No. 3308) introduced significant
reforms, integrating vocational education into schools and companies.
• 1987: The Tophane Anatolian Technical and Vocational High School was established, initially offering
an electronics department. Subsequently, departments for IT, machinery, and CNC technology were
added.
• 2012: The Industrial Automation Technologies Department was launched to keep pace with
advancements in state-of-the-art technologies.

Contributions to Lifelong Learning and Sector Collaboration
Tophane MTAL actively supports lifelong learning by organizing vocational education programs for
adults. In collaboration with various institutions, the school delivers vocational education and training
courses. It also conducts occupational health and safety training, as mandated by the "Regulation
Regarding Methods and Basics of the Occupational Health and Security Trainings, enacted under the
Law of Occupational Health and Safety.
